The City of Maricopa (not to be confused with Maricopa County) sits south of the Gila River Indian Community and next to the Ak-Chin Indian Community, about 35 miles south of Phoenix. It incorporated in 2003 and grew almost entirely during and after the housing boom, so nearly every home dates from the 2000s onward, in communities such as Rancho El Dorado, Province (a 55-plus community), Tortosa and Glennwilde.
